The First Spode Period 1776-1833
It is a paradox that while Josiah Spode I ran his factory for almost 30 years and died a wealthy man, his productions were unmarked and therefore very few of the earliest Spode pieces can be easily identified.
About the First Spode period -
The Copeland Period Part 1, 1833-1900
William Copeland died in 1826 and Josiah Spode II died in 1828. Until 1833, the company was managed by one of Spode’s sons and other managers.
About the Copeland Period - Part 1 -
The Copeland Period Part 2, 1901-1966
By 1900, the company had been owned and managed by the Copeland family for 67 years, and was to remain so for as long again.

The Second Spode Period 1966-2008
From 1966, the company underwent a number of changes of ownership, during which the business was merged with Royal Worcester.

The Present Day
In April 2009 the Spode brand was acquired by Portmeirion Group PLC, whose factory in Stoke is a short walk from the original Spode works.
