Identification Service

The Spode Museum Trust is very happy to help owners of Spode and Copeland items with identification or queries regarding their ceramic items. A small donation of £9.50 to the charity is requested to cover research costs.

Please note that As a Museum we are unable to provide valuations.

If you are a Museum or Collection open to the public the donation is waived.

To use the Identification Service please provide the following:

• Clear photographs of the item, showing both the front and back/underside, with any printed, painted or impressed marks or numbers clearly visible.

• Describe any features that might not be clear from the photograph, especially any numbers or letters impressed into the ceramic body – these could give an indication of date of manufacture.

• Make payment of the £9.50 donation in advance using the direct link to PayPal below.

We have been able to identify every Spode and Copeland item for enquirers to date, but if we are unable to identify your item, we will return your donation if required minus the cost of Paypal’s transaction charge.

The Spode Museum Trust Collection and Archive

The paper archive is currently on temporary deposit with Stoke on Trent Archive Service at the Potteries Museum, Hanley and also at Keele University.  It is available to view by appointment.  The Archive is owned by the Spode Museum Trust and is protected in perpetuity.

Anyone who wishes to reproduce any items or documents in the Spode Museum Trust Collection and Archive must FIRST apply for permission to do so giving full details of the proposed use of the material.
