The Spode Museum Trust was established by Spode in 1987 as an independent charitable trust, to which Spode donated its entire collection and archive, in order to protect it in perpetuity against possible future changes in factory ownership or commercial fortunes. Josiah Spode l acquired the site in what is now Church Street, Stoke in 1776 and Spode wares were made there continuously until 2008.
